How is it that Word can remember enough from a crash to send a report to Microsoft but can’t remember the text of the file I was editing?

And yes, I had autosave on. Apparently Microsoft Word believes autosave files are only PR and don’t require actual writing to disk.

You had one job, Microsoft Word: take the things I type and save them in a file. You failed by crashing and forgetting them.
