Pilots know that having an autopilot still demands they be responsible for their aircraft and passengers. Drivers should be no different.

Why self-driving cars still need drivers: we have had autopilots on airplanes for 50 years and the law still requires a pilot in command.

I predict that the legal system will require self-driving cars to have a responsible “pilot in command” for liability, just as with aircraft

Unlike the situation with cars driven by humans, you can’t sue an algorithm for an accident.

Prediction: Consumers will have second thoughts about self-driving cars when they see operators denying liability for injuries & accidents.
