17  That’s one small step….

surprise
moving

January 2025

It’s mid-January. Our lease for Huckins Farm has begun, so we’re moving fragile pieces over ourselves before the movers arrive on February 6. What could possibly go wrong?

While Carolyn thought a hot bath would cure her pain, she was wrong. Her primary care physician gave her a prescription for some extra-strong ibuprofen and told her to check back if it didn’t get better.

It didn’t.

Carolyn went back to her PCP and got an X-ray this time. She has two non-displaced pelvic fractures. The doctor prescribed some much better pain meds and prohibited her from lifting anything that weighs more than 5 pounds.

So we’re moving in less than 2 weeks, and Carolyn can’t lift any boxes. That’s, well, let’s say suboptimal.

Fortunately, we have fabulous sons who live with us and are taking up the slack. I’m also moving a lot of boxes up from our lower basement. Every time I climb those two half-flights of stairs carrying a box, I think how wonderful it would be to have an elevator to do the heavy lifting.

That day when we have an elevator in the house can’t come soon enough.
